Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature Double Electric Breast Pump Review

Breastfeeding can be tough. Between latching issues, nipple pain, low supply, and the sleep deprivation that comes with living with a newborn, new moms need all the help they can get! Whether you plan to exclusively pump or breastfeed the traditional way, a good breast pump can provide the help you need. I pumped a little when Sweet T was born which helped establish my supply, got some nourishment into my baby when she just couldn’t get the hang of things, and later gave me a little freedom when I could hand over a bottle to daddy once in a while. Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Double Electric Breast Pump will be my helper after baby #2 arrives.

The breast pump system is available at Babies R Us and includes the following:
(1) double electric breast pump
(4) spare valves
(2) 5oz bottles with slow flow nipples
(2) 9oz bottles with protection lids
(2) 4oz and 4x 2oz protection pods
protection pod tray
insulated case
(6)breast pads
carry bag to hold pump and accessories

As you can see, it’s more than just a pump. It’s a whole system! A milk storage system and the Tommee Tippee bottles you love are included.

The pump itself was easy to set up thanks to the clear instructions. While my milk obviously hasn’t come in yet, I still used the pump briefly just to see how it felt. My old pump’s “horns” were just hard plastic. The Closer to Nature pump also has plastic horns, but comes with silicone inserts for comfort and a massaging effect to mimics baby’s natural feeding action. I can’t say yet whether or not this makes the pump more effective at expressing milk, but it sure is more comfortable. I had some horrible red marks on my breast from those hard plastic horns so the silicone is welcome.

The pump is easy to set up straight out of the box, though you’ll need to sterilize certain parts before assembly. Those parts are pictured in the manual along with the parts that must only be surface cleaned.

Charging up!

I love that the pump has the option to use plugged into the wall via the AV connector or to be used with the rechargeable battery in case you need to go “wireless.” A breast pump can suck some serious battery power so I’m happy to have the rechargeable option. You can also use the double pump as a single pump by simply sliding the connector switch to the left or right depending on which breast you’d like to express.

Another neat feature of this system is the breast milk storage pods. You can pump into a pod inside the bottle then attach a nipple for instant feeding without transfer. Or, store the pod it in the freezer in the included tray, thaw and warm the pod, then drop the pod into a Tommee Tippee bottle for feeding. Since the milk never leaves the pod, there’s less change for spillage. If you’ve ever pumped and spilled you know that sick feeling in your stomach of having wasted liquid gold!

The Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature Double Electric Breast Pump is going to be one of my “breast friends” during the next year. Mamas, what do you look for in a breast pump?
