Eureka Airspeed ABS Vacuum Giveaway – Ends 10/11

Eureka is known for their innovative AirSpeed system which delivers a powerful suction through limited twists and turns in the vacuum’s tubing. Previously only available in a bagless design, the newest Eureka AirSpeed vacuum combines the technology of the Airspeed system with the design of a bagged vacuum cleaner creating the Airspeed ABS. Some of the vacuum’s additional features include:

Clean-Lock bag change system
Bag change indicator
HEPA filter
Airflow control switch
Stair and upholstery brush
12-foot hose
27-foot cord

The Airspeed ABS will be available in Walmart stores and at Walmart.com this month and I had the privilege of being one of the first to try it out. First let me give you a little background information regarding my vacuuming style and needs. Currently we live in a small one-level home, approximately 700 square feet of which is carpeted. We have a 13 month-old daughter and no pets. I am the primary vacuumer (that’s a word now!) and I’m definitely not the type who finds vacuuming a pleasant task: it’s a chore. In light of our current needs and my attitude toward vacuuming, I need my vacuum cleaner to do two things.

Do its job effectively
Not aggravate me in the process

After using my Eureka Airspeed ABS for the past week, I can verify that it meets both criteria. Let’s look at the vacuum more closely and I’ll explain how it is effective and simple to use.

How low can you go? I love that this vacuum will clean at nearly a 180 degree angle allowing me to get underneath some of our furniture without having to move it. Also the width of the hood is narrower than our old vacuum which also allows it to fit into tighter spaces. Are you seeing a pattern here? I’m a lazy vacuumer.

For even tighter spots such as stairs, upholstery, or that pesky spot between our bookcase and the wall that is just small enough that the vacuum won’t fit, the stair/upholstery brush comes to the rescue

The stair and upholstery brush easily attaches to hose or the hose wand as do the other two included attachments. Switching between floor and attachment use is simple thanks to the airflow control switch which diverts the power accordingly.

You can adjust the floor setting on the hood of the vacuum for your carpet’s pile as well as bare floor making the vacuum versatile for a variety of floors

Let’s look at the insides. Changing the bag is a straightforward process. Simply remove the canister by pulling the gray tab under the stair/upholstery brush (now you can see where the HEPA filter was hiding). Pull the black tab on top of the canister to remove the cover, change the bag, then replace the cover and the canister. I had the canister off of the vacuum and opened in less than five seconds without even reading the instructions. I like simple!

You can see how the advanced bag system (ABS) really traps the dirt in. No messy canister to empty.

The bag change indicator turns from green to red when the bag is ready to be changed so you don’t have to open up the canister to check

Some other things I like about the Eureka AirSpeed ABS

1. Availability of bags- The Arm and Hammer vacuum bags that go with the vacuum are available at Walmart which is convenient for us. No running out of bags and having to wait for an online order of replacements to arrive and no visiting a specialty store just for bags. As another perk, the bags help eliminate odors with the natural power of baking soda.

2. Lightweight – The AirSpeed ABS weighs 18.5 pounds and feels light to me after lugging around a toddler for half the day

3. Easy to use – I didn’t consult the instruction manual until it was time to write this review and that was only to make sure I didn’t publish any misinformation. The vacuum is simple enough to use right out of the box (mine came assembled).

4. Workable- I’ve used many vacuums in the past that were just plain irritating. Yes, they got the job done, but I was often ready to kick the vacuum by the time the carpets were clean because the hose or attachments kept falling off their clips or it was an ordeal to go from floor vacuuming to attachment vacuuming. Some were tough to even push around. One vacuum hose kept barely detaching from the vacuum body causing suction to go to zero. The Eureka Airspeed ABS didn’t give me any problems and made vacuuming less of a chore.

So far I don’t have any complaints about the vacuum. One of my pet-peeves about vacuums is their short life-span so I’m anxious to see how long the Airspeed ABS holds up, but can’t review the vacuum’s longevity for you at this time. It seems sturdy and since I’m a big fan of this vacuum so I hope it lasts for years.
